Sherrone Moore: Before We Judge, Let’s Talk

Leadership, empathy, mental health, and what we can learn from the Sherrone Moore saga.

In today’s culture, we are quick to judge. Social media turns complex human situations into headlines, memes, and soundbites; often without room for empathy, grace, or understanding.

In the latest episode of The Brandon D. Campbell Podcast, I share a different perspective on the highly publicized situation involving former University of Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore. Rather than joining the chorus of condemnation, this episode asks a deeper question:

How did we get here, and what can we learn from it?

Through the lens of mindfulness, leadership, faith, and life, I explore how childhood trauma, unmet emotional needs, and lack of connection can manifest later in life as destructive decisions regardless of status, wealth, or success. At the core of this conversation is a belief I hold deeply:

Most adults are still carrying the wounds of their younger selves.

This episode is not about excusing behavior. It’s about understanding people, extending grace, and recognizing that accountability and compassion can coexist.

Why This Matters for Families

As a father, mentor, and advocate for mental health, I couldn’t help but reflect on how early conversations, especially between parents and children, can shape emotional intelligence, self-worth, and decision-making later in life.

That reflection is what connects this podcast episode to my upcoming children’s book, Oh Brother, My Brother.

The book was intentionally written as a tool for families to spark meaningful conversations, strengthen bonds, and help address childhood trauma before it turns into lifelong pain. Each chapter includes prompts designed to encourage honesty, emotional awareness, and healing between parents and children.
